“Thanks to mountains I often find an answer which I am not able to come up with among people. I am fascinated by how small a human is in free nature, how insignificant and vulnerable; and I am even more spellbound by the peace that reflects into thoughts after some time. I probably tend to search mostly for hard-to-reach areas: high hills, mountains which must be climbed or walked to for a long time; I am attracted by rocks, snow, ice, inhospitable terrains, demanding conditions. I want to mediate that vulnerability, fragility, and finality of human existence to the viewers; the contrast in the size or significance between a human and the surrounding nature. The work originated during escaping from a storm; the look on the face is an authentic mixture of fear, exhaustion from long pilgrimage to the place, and pain that I had gone through.” F. J.
