Patrik Illo explores the idea of beauty in our everyday lives in a playful design based on the traditional cut glass, "crystal", which was used for special occasions in perhaps every socialist household.
However, he applies the crystal cut to the jam jar, a much lower genre on the aesthetic scale of the average person. In doing so, he creates an inspiring contrast posing fundamental questions about what is ordinary and what is festive, what is beautiful and what is mundane.
For him, the vessel is a shape that he understands as neutral, and he continues to work with it. It is to him something like a canvas for a painter.
