Farmyard with Sunflowers (Mednyánszky’s Studio)

In 1877 Mednyánszky, in Strážky, wrote in his diary: “This morning I tidied up, after breakfast I went for a walk, and then I went to the studio, where I resolved to make big changes. The reason for my lack of success is the tendency to do everything in large formats, bigger than necessary. I am beginning to admit this fault only after many years’ experience, and yet even in recent times I have had great difficulty in taking a firm position against it.”
