From his youth Štefan Schwartz suffered from health problems, intensi-fied by the trauma of the concentration camp in Auschwitz. He needed to take a considerable quantity of medicines, and he brought them into his free creative art. He used them to create collages, assemblages, and paraphrases of world-famous works of art. Schwartz also worked with impressions and frottages of a floor, apartment house notices, and man-hole covers. He discovered the hidden charm of seemingly banal things.
